How To Create An Audience Segment
Create Segments of your audience based on their attributes to create targeted email lists and deepen your understanding of your consumer.
Note that segments may contain contacts that have not opted-in to receive marketing from your brand. Before sending any marketing communications to these segments, please confirm the contact has an explicit consent record in the exported file.
If no consent record is available, send a double opt-in email from your email marketing platform to contacts within 30 days of their initial engagement to confirm their subscription.
How To Create An Audience Segment
- From your Dashboard, click the dropdown arrow next the Audience tab on the left side menu. Click Segments.

- Click the "+ Create Segment" button at the top right of the page.

- Fill out the form:
- Segment name: The internal reference for the segment you want to create.
- Segment description: optional; an internal field to describe the segment.
- Adjust the Filters to include customers that meet the conditions. All filters are optional; if no filter is selected for a particular parameter, all customers will be included in the segment.
- Date: Add a Start and End date to filter contacts that were added to your audience during this time period.
- Location
- State: the state(s) where a consumer has indicated they shop.
- City: the cities where a consumer has indicated they shop.
- Postal Code: the postal code(s) where a consumer has indicated they are located.
- Form
- Participated: to include only the customers that participated in specific forms.
For example, if you want to send a secondary offer to customers who made a purchase during a previous rebate offer, select the reimbursement form under the "Rebate Submission" section. This will filter to include only customers who have submitted a receipt to this offer, indicating they made a purchase.
- Retailer
- Shop at: If you want to include customers that indicated previously they shopped at a particular retailer banner, select the retailer(s) from the dropdown.
- Purchased at: If you want to include customers who have a verified purchase from a particular retailer, select the retailer(s) from the dropdown.
- Profile
- Gender: Select from the dropdown the gender(s) you'd like to include in the segment.
- Age Range: Select consumers within an age band or bands.
- Requested: Include customers who have made a product request for your brand.
- Purchased: Include customers that have purchased your product
- Marketing Consent: Include customers in the segment based on their consent status. If you plan to contact customers from this segment, ensure they responded "Yes" to consent to marketing. If you want to contact consumers who did not respond "Yes" or you are uncertain of their consent status, send a double opt-in email from your email marketing platform to contacts to confirm their consent and subscription.
- Willing to Purchase: Include customers in the segment that indicated their intent to repurchase your brand.
- Previous Customer: Include customers in the segment that have purchased your brand at least once as determined by their submission of a receipt to a rebate offer.
4.The Segment Preview will show how many customers match the filters and how the filters are applied.

- Click Save to preserve the changes and create the segment.

- The Segment will now be listed on the Segments page. Click the [...] menu to display actions for the segment:
- Edit: Make changes to the segment.
- Visualize: View the segment on your Audience > Explore map
- Download: Export a .csv of customers that meet the Segment conditions to upload to your CRM or into spreadsheet software for further exploration.
- Delete: Remove the segment from your Segments list. This action cannot be undone.
